About Baba Dhansar

Baba Dhansar is a natural waterfall and spring-fed pool near Sanasar, held sacred by many visitors as a site connected to Lord Shiva — a small cave shrine sits close to the falls, and the site draws both pilgrims and travellers looking for a scenic, cooler stop away from the main highway. The water is fed by natural springs, keeping the pool cold even in the warmer months, and the surrounding forest makes it a popular picnic spot for families travelling through the area.

The site is relatively compact, and most visits last a couple of hours — enough time to see the falls, the shrine, and enjoy the surroundings without it needing to anchor a full day on its own.

Getting There

Baba Dhansar is around 95 km from Katra, roughly two and a half hours by road, generally reached via the Patnitop route with a diversion toward Sanasar. Because of this, it’s often combined with a Patnitop or Sanasar visit on the same day rather than travelled to separately.

Best Time to Visit

March through June brings pleasant weather and a fuller flow at the falls. The period just after monsoon, September into October, also tends to bring good water flow with clearer skies. Peak monsoon months can make the approach road slippery, so caution is worth taking then.

Good to Know

  • The rocks around the pool can be slippery — sturdy footwear is worth wearing.
  • Facilities are basic; carrying water and snacks is a good idea.
  • The diversion road to Sanasar/Baba Dhansar is narrower than the main highway, so travel times can vary with traffic.
