Vaishno Devi Tour Package from Delhi

Everything you need to plan your yatra from Delhi — route options, a sample itinerary, and a tour package price starting from ₹6,999.

This page is for Delhi and NCR families, office groups and couples who want a Vaishno Devi yatra that fits a long weekend. Delhi is the easiest city on our list because a same-day arrival at Katra works by train, flight or cab.

We are a private tour planner, not the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. Helicopter tickets, yatra registration and other Shrine Board services are official and booked at maavaishnodevi.org; we help you plan and complete them.

How to Reach Vaishno Devi from Delhi

By Flight

Direct flights to Jammu take about 1h 20m and run multiple times daily.

By Train

Direct trains run New Delhi to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) station itself. Several overnight trains to Jammu Tawi (around 10–12 hours) are also available if a direct Katra train is sold out.

By Road

By road it is roughly 600 km, about 10–12 hours via NH44.

Delhi is one of the few cities on this list where the train genuinely rivals flying — a direct daytime Vande Bharat to Katra itself can beat the total door-to-door time of flying plus the Jammu transfer, so it's worth comparing both before booking.

Good to know

The Vande Bharat Express is the fastest named option — around 8 hours direct to Katra, running most days of the week. The daily Jammu Mail is a slower but dependable overnight alternative if the Vande Bharat is sold out.

  • Stations and airport. The Vande Bharat to Katra leaves from New Delhi railway station. The daily Jammu Mail and other overnight trains to Jammu Tawi use different Delhi stations depending on the train, so check the boarding station on your ticket. Flights to Jammu use Terminal 3 at Indira Gandhi International Airport.
  • Flight vs train, for Delhi. The daytime Vande Bharat takes roughly 8 hours and lands you in Katra itself. A flight is only about 1 hour 20 minutes, but airport time, the cab from Jammu and often a higher fare mean the two finish at a similar hour. The train is calmer with luggage and elders; the flight suits a very tight schedule.
  • Road, for groups. It is about 600 km on NH44. A private cab works for groups of five or more, but plan for 10 to 12 hours and an early start. We do not recommend driving yourself and starting the climb the same evening.

Sample Itinerary Starting from Delhi

  1. Day 0

    Delhi: station run and packing

If you live in Gurugram, Noida or Ghaziabad, leave an extra hour for the road to New Delhi station in morning traffic. Keep ID proofs and your yatra registration details ready on your phone.

  2. Day 1

    Vande Bharat to Katra

Take the morning train, reach Katra by late afternoon, check in and rest. If you booked a flight instead, expect to land at Jammu and finish the cab to Katra by evening.

  3. Day 2

    Darshan day

Start before sunrise. Most Delhi groups reach Bhawan by late morning, complete darshan, and return to the hotel by evening. Helicopter tickets are issued through the Shrine Board's official process at maavaishnodevi.org, which we can guide you through.

  4. Day 3

    Return to Delhi

Check out after lunch and take an evening train or flight back. Delhi-bound trains are busy on Sundays, so book the return at the same time as the outbound.

Weekend version: leave Friday night, back Sunday night

Delhi is the only city on our list where a true weekend trip is realistic. It works best outside long weekends.

  1. Fri night

    Overnight to Katra

Take an overnight train to Jammu Tawi, or a cab leaving around 9 pm. You sleep on the way.

  2. Sat

    Check in and climb

Freshen up, register, and start the climb by late morning. Reach Bhawan for evening darshan.

  3. Sun

    Rest and return

Sleep in, then take the afternoon Vande Bharat or an evening flight home.

Practical Tips for Delhi Travellers

  • Winter fog delays Delhi departures. In December and January, fog can delay both trains and flights out of Delhi. Avoid tight connections and keep the last day flexible.
  • Long weekends fill fast. Delhi schools and offices cluster breaks around Navratri, Dussehra and June. Book the train window the day it opens, or shift to a midweek date.
  • Cab or train for a group. A group of five or more usually pays less per head in a private cab than on separate tickets, but the road takes 10 to 12 hours. Choose the train if anyone has back or knee problems.
  • Ambala option. If you live in north Delhi or beyond, you may be able to board the Vande Bharat at Ambala Cantt instead. Check the current stops on IRCTC.

When to Travel from Delhi

Delhi's long weekends and school holidays pack the shrine, especially in June and around Navratri. If you can travel midweek in March, September or November, queues are shorter and the climb is more comfortable. Delhi winters bring fog delays, so December and January work better with a flexible return.

FAQs for Delhi Travellers

Is the Vande Bharat from Delhi better than flying to Jammu?

For most Delhi travellers, yes. It lands you in Katra itself, so you skip the 45 to 60 minute road transfer from Jammu, and it is easier with luggage, children or elders.

Which station do I board the Katra train from in Delhi?

The Vande Bharat to Katra leaves from New Delhi railway station. Some overnight trains use other Delhi stations, so check the boarding station on your ticket before you book the cab.

Can I do Vaishno Devi from Delhi in two days?

It is possible with an overnight train and a helicopter or battery car, but it is tiring. Three days gives you a night in Katra before the climb and time to rest after.

Is it safe to drive from Delhi to Katra ourselves?

NH44 is a good highway, but it is around 600 km and the final hill stretch is tiring after a long day. If you drive, share the wheel and do not start the climb the same day. A hired driver is the calmer choice.

Can an office group from Delhi book together?

Yes. Groups can share cabs and hotel blocks, which usually lowers the per-head price. Enter the group size in the Build My Yatra wizard and we quote the total.
