Vaishno Devi Tour Package from Ahmedabad

Everything you need to plan your yatra from Ahmedabad — route options, a sample itinerary, and a tour package price starting from ₹8,999.

This page is for Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Vadodara travellers, many of whom travel as large family groups. Ahmedabad has a rail option that many people miss: a direct train that runs all the way to Katra.

We are a private tour planner, not the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. Helicopter tickets, yatra registration and other Shrine Board services are official and booked at maavaishnodevi.org; we help you plan and complete them.

How to Reach Vaishno Devi from Ahmedabad

By Flight

Direct and connecting flights to Jammu take around 2–2.5 hours.

By Train

Trains to Jammu Tawi from Ahmedabad take roughly 24 hours, followed by a 45–60 minute transfer on to Katra.

By Road

At around 1,200 km, a road trip is possible but long — most travellers choose to fly.

If the direct Sarvodaya Express lines up with your travel dates, it's a genuinely comfortable option that skips the Jammu transfer entirely — otherwise flying remains the faster, more flexible choice for this distance.

Good to know

Good to know: the Sarvodaya Express runs direct from Ahmedabad all the way to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) station itself, skipping the Jammu Tawi transfer entirely. It doesn't run daily, so it's worth checking whether it lines up with your dates before assuming you'll need the connecting-train route.

  • Airport and stations. Flights leave from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. Trains use Ahmedabad Junction (Kalupur) and, for some services, Sabarmati, so check the boarding station on your ticket.
  • Flight vs train, for Ahmedabad. The Sarvodaya Express goes direct to Katra without a Jammu transfer, but it does not run daily, so you must match its day. Flights take about two hours and land you in Jammu with a cab ride of around an hour still to go. The fare gap is often smaller than people expect once you add the cab.
  • Road, for big groups. It is around 1,200 km, so we do not recommend driving all the way. A hired vehicle from Jammu works well for a joint family.

Sample Itinerary Starting from Ahmedabad

  1. Day 0

    Ahmedabad: choose train or flight

Check whether the direct train runs on your date. If it does not, book an early flight instead. Carry snacks that suit older members, since Katra hotels serve vegetarian food only.

  2. Day 1

    Arrive at Katra

By train you arrive at Katra directly. By flight, land at Jammu and finish the road by cab. Check in and rest well before darshan.

  3. Day 2

    Darshan day

Start before sunrise. Gujarati joint families often move slowly with mixed ages, so agree on rest stops in advance. Helicopter tickets are issued through the Shrine Board's process at maavaishnodevi.org, and we can guide you.

  4. Day 3

    Return to Ahmedabad

Check out and return by air or rail. If you take the direct train home, confirm the departure day early because it is not daily.

Practical Tips for Ahmedabad Travellers

  • Check the Sarvodaya day first. Book your dates around the train, not the other way round, if you want the direct option.
  • Avoid Diwali and summer windows. Gujarat has long holiday windows around Diwali and summer vacations. Travel just after those dates when fares and crowds fall.
  • Navratri crowds. Gujarat celebrates Navratri with garba, and many families also travel to Katra that week. If you want short queues, go just before or after.
  • Vegetarian Katra. Katra is strictly vegetarian, which suits most Gujarati families. Jain and no-onion-garlic requests can be met at many hotels if you ask in advance.

When to Travel from Ahmedabad

Gujarat has long holiday windows around Diwali and summer vacations. Travel just after those dates when fares and crowds fall back. October to March is the best weather window for the climb, with early March and mid-November being the calmest.

FAQs for Ahmedabad Travellers

Does any train run from Ahmedabad directly to Katra?

Yes. The Sarvodaya Express goes to Katra without a change, but it does not run daily. Check the current days on IRCTC and book early.

Is flying from Ahmedabad worth it for a three-day trip?

For a short trip, yes. A two-hour flight leaves you rested for the climb, whereas a full day on a train eats into a three-day plan.

Which Ahmedabad station should I board from?

Most long-distance trains use Ahmedabad Junction (Kalupur), but some use Sabarmati. Check the boarding station on your ticket.

Can a joint family of 12 book one package?

Yes. Large groups share vehicles and hotel blocks, which usually lowers the per-head price. Enter the group size in the wizard.

Can hotels in Katra handle Jain food requests?

Many can, if you tell us in advance. Mention it when you build your itinerary.
