Vaishno Devi Tour Package from Punjab

Everything you need to plan your yatra from Punjab — route options, a sample itinerary, and a tour package price starting from ₹6,499.

This page is for travellers from Punjab, whether you start in Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Pathankot or a smaller town. Punjab sits close to Jammu, so most trips are a short drive or train ride, and the best plan depends on where you start.

We are a private tour planner, not the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. Helicopter tickets, yatra registration and other Shrine Board services are official and booked at maavaishnodevi.org; we help you plan and complete them.

How to Reach Vaishno Devi from Punjab

By Flight

Amritsar is the only Punjab airport with any relevant connectivity, and even then there is no practical direct flight to Jammu — most Punjab travellers drive or take the train instead.

By Train

Direct trains to Jammu Tawi run from multiple Punjab cities, including Amritsar, Jalandhar, and Ludhiana, followed by a 45–60 minute transfer on to Katra. Exact routing and timing vary by your city of origin.

By Road

Road distances vary by city — from around 150 km if you're near Pathankot up to 400 km from Ludhiana — but most of Punjab is within a comfortable 3–7 hour drive of Katra via NH44.

Given Punjab's proximity to Jammu, road travel is usually the most practical option regardless of which city you're starting from — many families choose to drive directly to Katra rather than book a flight or train.

Good to know

Check the specific direct service from your city on IRCTC, since routing and timing vary meaningfully across Punjab — a Jalandhar train and a Ludhiana train won't run the same schedule.

  • Pathankot and the border belt. If you are near Pathankot, Katra is a comparatively short drive, and a cab is almost always the easiest option.
  • Jalandhar and Ludhiana. Both are on the main line and have frequent trains to Jammu Tawi, followed by an hour by road to Katra. From Ludhiana the road is a longer but manageable drive on the national highway.
  • Amritsar and the Golden Temple. There is no practical flight to Jammu from Amritsar. Many travellers add the Golden Temple before or after the yatra. If you do, keep at least one clear day for the Vaishno Devi climb.

Sample Itinerary Starting from Punjab

  1. Day 0

Your Punjab town: choose cab or train

For groups of four or more, a cab is often cheaper per person and lets you leave when you like. Solo travellers and couples usually prefer the train. Avoid a night journey the day before the climb.

  2. Day 1

    Reach Katra by afternoon

Set off early, check in by afternoon, register for the yatra and rest. The short distance means you have time to sort your bags and shoes.

  3. Day 2

    Darshan day

Start around 4 am. Punjab families often visit at short notice, so check the crowd calendar first. Helicopter tickets are issued through the Shrine Board's process at maavaishnodevi.org, and we can guide you.

  4. Day 3

    Head home

After the descent, rest a night or leave the next morning. Many Punjab families return the same evening, but an unhurried morning start is kinder after the climb.

Practical Tips for Punjab Travellers

  • Winter fog on the highway. From December to January, early-morning fog can slow the drive. Start after sunrise and finish in daylight.
  • Baisakhi and Navratri crowds. Punjab families travel heavily around Baisakhi in April and during Navratri. Go midweek to avoid queues.
  • Add the Golden Temple. From Amritsar, a Golden Temple visit at dawn fits before a morning departure to Katra, or on the way home.
  • Cab beats train for groups. A hired cab is door to door, and the cost split across four or more people is often lower than train tickets.

When to Travel from Punjab

Because the drive is short, you can go on a weekday almost any time of the year. Avoid Baisakhi week, the Navratri weeks and school holidays if you can. Winters are cold but clear, and March to October are the easiest months for the climb.

Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Amritsar all have direct trains to Jammu Tawi, and Pathankot is the closest by road. Check timings from your own station on IRCTC.

For groups of four or more, usually yes. It is door to door, and the cost split across the group is often lower than four or five train tickets.

How long is the drive from Ludhiana to Katra?

It is roughly 400 km on the national highway, so plan a full day on the road including a break. Start early.

Can I add the Golden Temple to my Vaishno Devi trip?

Yes. Visit at dawn from Amritsar before you head to Katra, or on the way back. Keep one clear day for the climb.

Do you take bookings from small towns in Punjab?
