Vaishno Devi Tour Package from Mumbai
Everything you need to plan your yatra from Mumbai — route options, a sample itinerary, and a tour package price starting from ₹9,499.
This page is for Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai families and groups who want a Vaishno Devi yatra without days of logistics. Mumbai is one of the longer routes to Katra, so we plan the flight or train first and build the hotel and darshan days around it.
We are a private tour planner, not the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. Helicopter tickets, yatra registration and other Shrine Board services are official and booked at maavaishnodevi.org; we help you plan and complete them.
How to Reach Vaishno Devi from Mumbai
By Flight
Direct flights to Jammu take around 2h 30m and are the fastest way to reach Katra from Mumbai.
By Train
Some direct trains run Mumbai to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) station, though seats sell out fast. Connecting trains to Jammu Tawi (roughly 24–26 hours) are a common fallback — flying is far more practical for most travellers.
By Road
At over 1,700 km, driving is not practical for most visitors from Mumbai.
For most Mumbai travellers, flying is the more reliable choice — the direct flight is fast and predictable, while rail options on this route involve either a long overnight journey or booking well ahead for the limited direct-to-Katra seats.
Named options on this route include the Swaraj Express and the Vivek Express — both run toward Jammu Tawi, but exact routing and direct-to-Katra availability shift periodically, so confirm the current option on IRCTC before booking rather than assuming last year's schedule still holds.
- Airport and stations. Flights leave from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, and most Jammu flights use Terminal 2. Long-distance trains toward Jammu Tawi and Katra leave from terminals such as Bandra Terminus, Mumbai Central or CSMT depending on the service, so check the boarding station on your ticket before you book the cab.
- Flight vs train, for Mumbai. Flying wins for almost everyone here. About 2.5 hours in the air replaces roughly a day and a night on a train each way, so a three-day trip stays a three-day trip. The train only makes sense if you have five or six days, want to avoid peak-season airfares, and can book direct-to-Katra seats the moment the window opens.
- Direct vs one-stop. Direct flights to Jammu are limited by day and season. A one-stop itinerary through Delhi is common and often cheaper, but a tight connection is the most frequent reason a first day is lost, so leave at least two hours between flights.

Sample Itinerary Starting from Mumbai
- Day 0
Mumbai: airport run and packing
Bhawan is far cooler than Mumbai even in warm months, so pack a light jacket, comfortable walking shoes and ID copies for every traveller. If you live in Thane or Navi Mumbai, plan the cab to the airport around the previous evening's traffic, not the morning's.
- Day 1
Fly Mumbai to Jammu, cab to Katra
Take an early flight so you land in Jammu by late morning, then a cab of about 45 to 60 minutes takes you to Katra. Check in, register for the yatra if you have not done so online, and rest for the evening.
- Day 2
Darshan day
Start around 4 to 5 am. Mumbai groups often include children and older parents, so pace the climb around the slowest walker and use ponies, palki or a battery car for part of it. Helicopter tickets to Sanjichhat are issued through the Shrine Board's own process at maavaishnodevi.org, which we can guide you through.
- Day 3
Cab to Jammu, fly home
Check out after a slow breakfast, drive to Jammu and take an afternoon or evening flight to Mumbai. Leave Katra at least four hours before departure.
If you take the train from Mumbai: a 5-day plan
The train only works if you have spare days and book early. The journey is about a day and a night each way, so the yatra itself needs four or five days.
- Day 1
Board in Mumbai
Spend the day and night on the train. Carry water, snacks and a light blanket.
- Day 2
Arrive and rest
Reach Jammu Tawi or Katra, check in, and sleep early. Do not start the climb the same evening.
- Day 3
Darshan
Climb before sunrise, complete darshan, and come back to the hotel by night.
- Day 4
Rest and start home
Take a slow morning, then fly back from Jammu or board the return train.
Practical Tips for Mumbai Travellers
- Allow for Mumbai traffic. From the suburbs, peak-hour traffic can add an hour or more to the airport run. A missed flight to Jammu costs the whole first day.
- Monsoon months need buffer. From June to September, heavy rain can delay flights out of Mumbai and cause landslide closures on the Katra route. Buy flexible fares and keep a spare day.
- Avoid the May and Diwali fare spike. Mumbai fares to Jammu rise sharply during May and June holidays and around Diwali. October after Navratri, or February, is calmer.
- Katra is vegetarian. Meat and alcohol are not allowed in Katra. Pack snacks for the flight rather than planning a non-veg meal on arrival.
When to Travel from Mumbai
Mumbai school holidays in May and the Diwali break are the busiest windows, and fares follow. October after Navratri and February to March give comfortable weather at Bhawan and much lower flights. Long weekends around Ganesh Chaturthi also push Mumbai travellers north, so book early if your dates overlap.

FAQs for Mumbai Travellers
Is there a direct flight from Mumbai to Jammu?
Direct flights run on some days and airlines and take around 2 hours 30 minutes. Schedules change by season, so compare direct and one-stop fares for the dates you can move.
Which Mumbai airport terminal do Jammu flights use?
Most Jammu flights operate from Terminal 2 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, but check your airline and boarding pass because terminals can change.
Should Mumbai travellers take the train to Katra?
Only with five or more days to spare and early booking. The journey is roughly a day and a night each way, so most Mumbai families fly out and keep the train as a backup.
How many days should I take off from Mumbai?
Three days if you fly both ways. Four if you want a rest day before the flight home. Five if you take the train out.
Can a group from a Mumbai housing society book one package?
Yes. Groups of ten or more can share vehicles and hotel blocks, which usually lowers the per-head price. Enter the group size in the Build My Yatra wizard and we will quote the total.
Is Mumbai to Katra by road possible?
Not realistically. It is over 1,700 km, so we plan flights or trains from Mumbai and use a private cab only from Jammu onward.
